Warning New EPA Regulations Affect Glaziers!

CGDA has spoken with the EPA with regard to this new federal regulation called Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair, and Painting Program and any glazier that does window repair or replacement, whether it is replacing a complete window or simply a pane of glass, you will be required to have this federal certification!

  • It applies to residential houses, apartments, and child-occupied facilities such as schools and day-care centers built before 1978.
  • Firms are required to be certified, their employees must be trained in use of lead-safe work practices, and lead-safe work practices that minimize occupants’ exposure to lead hazards must be followed.
  • Renovation is broadly defined as any activity that disturbs painted surfaces and includes most repair, remodeling, and maintenance activities, including window replacement.

CGDA is currently working on securing an instructor to teach the 8 hour course which is valid for 5 years. The cost for the course would be about $200 per employee.  The company would then have to apply to the EPA for the company’s certification at a cost of approximately $300 per company.
